The Mountain Ash by Paul Kennelly March 7th 2010
Through the evening mist , you came , the barmy summers dewy rain
and sat beneath the Rowan tree , the fading light , all I could see
Your blessed face ‘twas just in view , and russet cloak , shot through with blue
and then , a fleeting glimpse of hand , that seemed to beckon and demand
calling me to join you there , to cross that line , that’s if I dare
admitting that there’s no dispute , you truly are forbidden fruit
Chorus
Oh Mountain Ash , please be discreet , I pray my secret you shall keep
and not to other souls impart , for if you did , ‘would break my heart
It is a place I cannot go , for if I should and break my vow
a bitterness of love betrayed , that is the price that would be paid
