The Silent Room a poem by Paul Kennelly 19th July 2009
A silent room is all we see , here , once a loved one tried to be
a winner in the race of life , but fell before the time was right
And all our love and all our tears , could save them not, although , for years
that daughter, son, cousin, wife , who put up such a worthy fight
Then this is it, an empty room and memories of happy times that
passed so very soon
And yet live on, our dear one shall , within our hearts and minds and all
So, when we’re in a silent room , we think of them , who like a cloud
drifted away, far , far , too soon
A silent room is all we see , here , once a loved one tried to be
a winner in the race of life , but fell before the time was right
And all our love and all our tears , could save them not, although , for years
that daughter, son, cousin, wife , who put up such a worthy fight
Then this is it, an empty room and memories of happy times that
passed so very soon
And yet live on, our dear one shall , within our hearts and minds and all
So, when we’re in a silent room , we think of them , who like a cloud
drifted away, far , far , too soon
